Mountain Goat Hunting
Guided Mountain Goat Hunting Trips
Mountain goat hunting puts you in pursuit of “the monarch of the mountain”. “His and her majesty” live in rugged country. This is big game hunting for strong hearts and sure shots. You have to hike and climb to chase your target on his territory – steep, rocky cliffs. The goats think terrain will shield them so they are not overly self-protective. It allows our hunting parties to bring back an exceptional trophy.

A magnificent prize that’s a challenge to nabThe mountain goat makes a truly distinctive trophy. The coat is shaggy, fluffy white hair that’s at least two inches long. Foot-long dark horns curl backward. A goat’s legs are relatively short, about 20 inches long – the better to navigate steep slopes. Here’s what makes man versus goat interesting. Mountain Goats have a lot of strength in their hind legs, so they jump great distances. Their hooves are flexible, like rubber, giving them superb footing as they jump from rock to rock. To borrow a term from tennis: advantage - goats. The chase is on!

- Mountain goat hunt season opens in mid-September and runs until the end of November. Early-season hunts may have better weather but shorter-haired goats.
- By late-season mountain goat hunting, the coats are longer but there is the possibility of increased rain, fog, and wind as the season progresses.
Handling your goat after the huntYou will carry your capture back to camp on your back, secured to your backpack. We have partnerships with several taxidermists and expediters to ship where you want. Many of our guests choose to keep only the distinctive coat, and horns. If you want the meat, we have arrangements with local processors.
